Emmett had set a high bar for themselves last year as they won the Southern Idaho Conference. They ended the season as the number two seed in the 4A division and finished their season off with a loss to Skyline in the State Championship game. This year, Emmett hopes to finish what they started last year and win a state title this upcoming football season.
Most of Emmett’s success last year came from the play of star quarterback Caden Young. Young was the 4A State Player of the Year last season and looks to repeat his success this year. Emmett is fortunate enough to have Young return this year to serve as a team leader and hopefully lead the Huskies to a consecutive State Championship appearance.
Just because Emmett made it to the State Championship game last year, that does not mean it will be easy to return there this year. The Huskies lost almost all their offensive and defensive lineman from last year so these positions will need to step up if they want to repeat their success from last year.
On offense, the players around Young need to step up and play to their best. The biggest offensive position to watch is the offensive line. If their new offensive line can show that they can compete, then the entire offense will be in good condition.
Like the offense, Emmett’s defensive unit needs to continue to compete at the same level that they did last year. The returning players need to continue to elevate their game from last year and the new players need to fill into their roles efficiently. The new faces on the defensive line must step up and compete if this defense wants to succeed this year.
The biggest key for Emmett this year is just picking up from where they left last season. If they can start this season with the same energy and intensity as they had last season, then they will be the biggest threat to every team in the 4A division.
