Team Preview

A new year and new challenges for coach Eli Bourgard entering his 5th season with Kellogg. This season, Kellogg will be faced with a shortage, not of players, but of height.

Last year, Kellogg was deep in the post, but they graduated three at position. The good news is they are returning two posts. One received All-Conference honors is Kaili Cates. Add returner Kat Rauenhorst and newcomer Kaitlin Senteny, the post position should be covered even if they aren’t the tallest players around. Senteny was moved up late season last year and will be moving into a starting role this season.

What will be the strength of this team, and will be led by Marley Chambers (received All-Conference Honors), will be the scrappy and hard nose approach to counter the lack of size. Chambers and company can attack and create defenses. The x-factor will be if they can attack and make that extra pass after defensive rotations occur and hit the open teammate to knock down open shots.

But enough about offense. The focus with this team is on the other side. Coach Bourgard needs his squad to relentless and force turnovers and opponents to take bad shots. The magic number is keeping teams under 40 points. Kellogg feels they will be on top in every contest if they can hold teams under the mark. But, Coach Bourgard harps, “It will take us all to play for each other for 32 minutes.”

Kellogg has an exciting schedule lined up, but none more exciting than the Brawl for the Ball at Kellogg December 17.
